FAQs

What level of service do you offer?

I offer a highly customised one on one service from your initial contact to delivery of your final product. Beautiful artwork for your home & professional quality products designed to last a lifetime. Custom photography is all about choice, flexibility and personalised attention. My service is for families who want to have a say in how their memories are captured and not “fit” in with the boring and staged studio chain photographic experience. My images are hand crafted and individualised, not mass produced.

Why does custom photography seem expensive?

The first thing I want to say here is that many studio chains actually charge more for their prints than I do. They may get you in the door with a the promise of a low cost session and “free print” but then their print prices are expensive for the level of service and average quality of product that they offer. You also get locked into buying packages of “poses” that force to to get multiple copies of the same image.

There are a number of factors that go into the cost of my professional prints with the two main ones being time and the cost of equipment. As a custom photographer, I put my whole heart into every one of my sessions. The time I spend photographing your family is only a very small portion of the time I spend on the whole process of delivering your beautiful images and products. My time is spent on your pre session consultation, preparing my equipment and props for your session, travel to and from your session and then 2 hours on location for the shoot. Back in my office I download your files to my computer and create back-ups. I then hand pick the best images from your session and fully edit them to turn them into works of art and upload them to your private online gallery. I will usually also spend several hours creating storyboard ideas and wall gallery layouts to assist you in your decision making. I am then available for questions and design consultations during the ordering process. Next, I will place orders for your prints and products with my various professional suppliers. Then I receive the orders, compile albums, assemble prints in their matts and finalise packaging and the shipping of your order. This is apart from all the paperwork and administration time involved in operating a business.

I also have the costs of purchasing, updating and maintaining my professional camera and computer equipment and software in addition to the general costs of running a business.

The images I present to you are not basic digital files straight out of my camera. Each image has been carefully hand crafted into a work of art. This process requires a great deal of time and expertise as well as expensive computer equipment and software. To give you an example of an original image as it appears straight out of camera next to the fully edited version:

Do you offer packages?

Yes, I have both print collections and digital packages. Packages offer a considerable saving off my a la carte pricing. Please contact me for my full price list on 0402 346 347 or email info@amandaayling.com.au

Do you sell digital negatives?

I do offer digital negatives as part of my digital packages. All of these packages include some prints as I want to ensure that you have some beautiful, professional prints from your session. The digital negatives I offer for purchase are the fully edited, retouched files you will see in your gallery.

What forms of payment do you accept?

Cash, credit card or direct deposit.

What equipment do you use?

I use only professional quality Canon camera gear. My primary camera body is the Canon 5D Mark II and my back up is a Canon 40D. I have several lens that I like to use but I primarily shoot with my L series lens, my Canon 24-70mm 2.8L and Canon 50mm 1.2L.
